RESTORATIVE BOOKBINDING 2.24.18 - 2.25.18

What to do with that tattered but valuable family cookbook?  Or your favorite old copy of "The Wind in the Willows" from grandpa's library?  Careful restoration of a book's binding can extend its life indefinitely-- most books can have their covers repaired, torn pages fixed, and spines strengthened for continued use.  Linda Davis has years of experience with bookbinding, after originally apprenticing with Kisane and Hubert Book Bindery in Cork, Ireland, and in this course she will teach the skills needed to rebind and restore any old book.  Through the restoration process, you will learn how books are constructed, which allows you to create your own books, journals, etc., as well as to maintain the treasured books in your own library.  Students may bring a book of their own (good choices for rebinding would be hardcover favorites or any book needing mending) or Linda can provide one for working on.
